Carrillo K-5 Communication and Creative Art Magnet School is a highly performing “A+” – rated school in the heart of Downtown Tucson.
This historic school was needing a major facelift and Riddle Painting & Coatings, Co. stepped up to make sure the exterior of the building matched the quality of the interior educational culture.
Prime and Paint all existing metal; hollow metal doors, hollow metal door frames, hollow metal windows, steel I-beams, and hand rails.
Previous painted or coated exterior concrete walls, stucco walls, CMU walls, concrete columns, metal canopies are to be first power washed using the minimum of 2,000 to 2,500 PSI at the flow of 4 to 14 gallons per minute per NACE Standard RP-01-72. Water Blasting to remove oil, grease, loose paint, mill scale, dirt, foreign matter, rust, mold, mildew, mortar, efflorescence, and sealers to assure sound bonding to the tightly adhering old paint.
The exterior of building is to be first power washed using the minimum of 3,000 PSI. After power washing is complete and building has dried, we apply 3 coats of material. The first being Block Filler which fills crevices and creates a uniform smooth surface. This is a filler material used under epoxy, alkyd and latex top coats for interior and exterior concrete finishes. It is used in masonry preparation on concrete block and cinder block . After which we apply two coats of Elastomeric. Elastomeric paint is a high build coating that is designed for masonry surfaces. These coatings help protect your stucco and block from wind driven rain, and create a waterproof system to all masonry surfaces.

Inside of chamber is to be blasted and inspected before starting per spec. After inspection is completed on welds and blasting, we will stripe welds where necessary in an Industrial coating. After inspection of weld striping, and interior chamber it’s to be primed in International 670 HS. After inspection of the prime coat is completed, the top coat of International 670 HS will be applied and inspected. All coatings to be applied at DFT of 6 mils.
